In a post made by Veneretio of Tankingtips.com, it was suggest that the best way to deal with the upcoming changes and expansion are to set goals for yourself both as a player and as a tank. That got me to thinking...
Now, while I may not have experienced every aspect of the game content-wise, I've overall been very happy with what I have gotten to experience and be a part of. Sure, it would have been great to see Illidan, and to take part in the battle for Mount Hyjal, and battle against Kil'jaeden at the Sunwell. But while I may not have been at the front lines of cutting edge content, I've enjoyed what I have done. But setting a few goals does sound like a great idea.
Recently I've banded together a variety of people from various servers whom I have enjoyed playing with over the past few years into a single guild. It's not a large guild by any means (I believe we're currently sporting around 12 active members, not including alts), but it will provide exactly what I am looking forward to; Raiding with people I consider good friends, and have fun playing with. Everyone involved is very excited about the possibilities, especially because Wrath of the Lich King will feature 10 player versions of all the raid content.
Current and Future Goals
1. Continue to gather the few remaining people we need for the upcoming guild.
Yes, there are still a few stragglers out there who haven't transferred and such yet, and we're eagerly awaiting their arrival.
2. Build bonds within the guild.
While I may be friends with everyone in the new guild, some of the players do not really know each other. So I'd like to continue doing what we can as a guild, such as Karazhan and Zul'Aman, to build those friendships up before the release of Wrath of the Lich King.
3. Continue to grow both as a tank and leader
Now I consider myself a pretty decent tank. I've done nearly every heroic available, without ideal group setups. I've tanked a wide array of different 10 and 25 man bosses. I read everything available to me about tanking (especially things from Tankingtips.com and Tankspot.com) and I feel that they have all contributed to what I have been able to do both as a tank and leader. In the future, I want to be more active in the discussions that take place in both places, instead of just reading it.
4. Be prepared for Wrath
In addition to all the above things, I still have quite a bit to do to prepare myself for the future. I need to get some gems ready for the inevitable resocketing I will have to do come patch time. I plan to collect a decent stockpile of the necessary trade skill materials to give myself and edge come Wrath. Currently I have somewhere in the ballpark of 600 Netherweave cloth to grind out what I can of First Aid. I'm also working towards getting a fair amount of Eternium bar and ore so I can hopefully knock out a few points in Blacksmithing without having to use valuable new resources.
5. Actually use this blog
Yep, that's right. I'm going to actively use this blog for a variety of things. Tanking discussions and experiences, my thoughts on the expansion, and so forth. Hopefully, the people who end up reading this will find it somewhat enjoyable. If not, well...there's always a bunch of other tanking blogs!
